(Note: This is in response to the "Prime Time" post, but i felt that this might not get read if i posted it way down on the bottom of all these other posts.) Hi, my name is Ryan O'Toole. I am a 16 year old from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and i got thinking today while i wait to go back to school after lunch, here are my thoughts. I feel that Canada in general isn't well known to most people in the world, and suprisingly enough, Americans. I think it was covered exceptionally well by news crews from all over the world, mainly America, given the fact that Canada, specifically Newfoundland, was very unknown on Sept. 10th. I'm thinking now, and i recall the tragic Swissair Flight 111 which crashed off the tiny fishing village of Peggy's Cove, about an hour outside of Halifax in Nova Scotia. It gained major public attention, overseas and in North America. The stories mainly read about the lending hand of the locals who wanted to help the survivors, the locals who, with a good 15 minutes on emergency crews, were the first on the scene to help. I don't think generousity is isolated to such small loacalities (as we know, Canada is huge, yet we have 1/10 the population of the States), but rather these small areas shine the brightest when they are mentioned across the world for being so small, yet so generous. In the past, the stereotypical view of the average New Yorker could be described as not-so-friendly, however they proved the world wrong on September 11th and beyond by their continuous acts of courage, calmness and liberty. In my opinion, no one country is great for any reason, but rather every country is great for their own reason. Likewise, each can be said for every single individual inside each country. Nothing completely bad can become of a situation when across the way you are surrounded by the ones that love you, even if the ones that love you are complete strangers. I thank you for your time.
