I'm so happy that this site exists for all those who experienced this inexplicably horrendous event to connect and reflect and share with one another their thoughts, pictures and experiences. Gladder still to see the outpouring of love and appreciation towards my fellow Canucks in Newfoundland from their multitudes of unexpected guests on that dreadful day. All of Canada was feeling your pain and confusion a year ago today, but only a lucky, relative few had the privelege and good fortune to be in a position to actually DO something to hopefully alleviate your suffering and create a "safe" place for you to land and recover, and try to make some "sense" of it all. That the good citizens of Newfoundland stepped up to the plate in such an awe inspiring fashion surprises no one at all in Canada - they've always been famous here for that sort of thing, as are all Maritimers, and I think we sort of took it for granted that you were in the best possible hands under the circumstances. And "out west" where I live (Edmonton, Alberta), and further west in Vancouver, B.C. and even up north in the Yukon, "accidental tourists" from other U.S.-bound flights were also immediately taken into the homes and hearts of the residents (though in much smaller numbers than the influx of 20,000+ to Newfoundland). There were line-ups of people waiting impatiently at the Edmonton International Airport that afternoon, in the hopes of "being able" to bring an American home with them! (The food and the music probably weren't as good here as you experienced, but it's the thought that counts! Lol!) I'm so glad you all made it home safely (eventually!), and so proud and happy that at least some of you now realize what good and true friends you have so close at hand! I send my heartfelt sympathies to all of you on this sad anniversary, and I thank you for taking the time to express your gratitude and thoughts and memories on this site. Ya'll come back now, ya hear? Love, Melissa A. Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
